The Association (ECREA) and the Congress
The European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) is the main association of researchers in European communication. ECREA was established in 2005 as a merger of the two main European associations of communication researchers, the European Communication Association (ECA) and the European Consortium for Communications Research (ECCR).
The Conference of Barcelona 2008 will be the second of the association. The First European Communication Conference took place at the University of Amsterdam in November 2005.
The 2008 conference in Barcelona focuses on Communication Policies and Culture in Europe.

Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony of the congress has been assigned to the Communication Institute of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (InCom-UAB) which, together with the faculty of Communication Sciences, is organizing the event.

Since the beginning it has been agreed that the closing ceremony of ECREA should stand out through a different format in the way results will be presented, compared to the classical reports and panels dominating the three days of the congerss.

The closing ceremony, in its structure more free than the inaguration, will also have to incorporate the topic of the congress being “Communication Policies and Culture in Europe”. Because of that a transversal subject is proposed, a subject that allows the audience to gain new knowledge and to reflect on some of the key arguments dealing with communication and the Catalan culture, being of high interest to the international researches attending.

The topic of the closing ceremony
As a main subject of the closing ceremony we propose: Cultural Expressions and universal symbols. The experience of Catalonia.
