The Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with the Department of Italian Studies of the University of Toronto, is proud to present the illustrated lecture Signs and Scribbles of Dreams – The dreamlike experience in the ‘Librone dei sogni’ by F. Fellini by eminent Italian semiologist Paolo Fabbri.

“The Book of Dreams” is a “diary”, kept by Federico Fellini from the late 70s to the August of 1990 in which the great director faithfully registered his nocturnal dreams and nightmares in the form of drawings, or in his own definition of “scribbles, fast and ungrammatical notes”. A very colourful journey in the infinite territories of the fantasies of a genius, this volume adds a piece to the puzzle for the study of Fellini’s creative experience. In his conference Paolo Fabbri will speak about this extraordinary book – the Librone – as it was called by its author – and how the director’s dreams and nightmares were transferred in a vast fresco of words and images. A nightlife that became part of his filmography.
